"Hello Jim,
I am writing to complement you on your fine collimation products. After
giving your Triplepack XL kit a few months of daily use both in the field
and workshop, I can honestly say your Catseye system is without equal.
As you know, our forte is large, fast telescopes. Our old Cheshire sight
tube could barely handle a 5" secondary mirror let alone the 6" secondaries
we use in our 32" telescopes. Your ingenious, adjustable sight tube lets
us nail the secondary alignment with no guesswork at all. We even engraved
the tube with the lengths of our commonly used focal ratios.
Your Autocollimator is, without a doubt, the most well made unit on the
market, again putting our old model to shame. Seeing the 4th reflection
for the first time is simply amazing. I demonstrated your Autocollimator
to a group a few weeks ago. We first did a precise alignment with a
standard laser collimator. Then we installed your Autocollimator and put
the "icing on the cake". Many who had never seen an autocollimator in
action were amazed by how sensitive it is. Does this extra resolution
really matter? At f/7 probably not, but at f/4 or faster, it lets you
really draw out every last detail on an object like Saturn.
Your center spotting template is a great time saver for our shop. Many
customers bring us telescopes with good optics but sub-standard
structures. We build new telescopes for them and recycle the optical
train. Some mirrors are 1/8" over or under sized in diameter. Others have
center spots installed off center by almost 1/4" from the factory. Your
universal template lets us spot mirrors of different sizes all at once. We
literally tossed out our old cardboard templates.
Finally, your triangular center spots with laser hole are the perfect
compromise. You can still use a laser when it is already dark and you are
in a hurry, or even to get everything close enough for the
Autocollimator. After trying both colors, we prefer the white ones. Every
Webster Telescope leaving our shop will now have the Catseye triangle.
Thank you for making a product that exceeded our expectations,
Eric Webster
